William was married to Sarah Ann Hyde in England and was sentenced in the Salisbury.England. 7 Years for Stealing.and arrived in a convict ship Called "Anna Maria" c:1848.With the help of the Binch family in England.Sarah Anne Binch with her 2 year old daughter arrived in December 1849 on the S.V."Success" (hence the first born daughter in Australia was called Ann Maria) below is some text regarding convicts of that era."Exiles or as they were also known Pentonvillians were people who had been convicted of an offence in Britain and were serving their sentence in an English prison, usually Pentonville, Parkhurst or Millbank. Those prisoners, depending on their crime, who were seen as being well behaved whilst serving the early part of their sentence were given an option of being sent to the Australian colonies, in this case Victoria, and on arrival being given a conditional pardon. The condition of the pardon being that the person remained in the colony for the duration of the unexpired part of their sentence. In effect they were exiled to Australia."That document about George E Binch "emigrating to America " actually concerns another "Binch Lineof the Family, Probrobly a cousin, who was convicted and sent to Australia in 19 Sep 1851 and was returning to England after completing his sentence.thought I would share this info that comes to mind.

I talked to a Binch Family Member in Nottinghamshire,England a few years ago and he informed me he was the Sheriff of Nottingham and had done a lot of work on the Family Tree there in Nottingham.he also gave me the name and number of an American Binch on the East Coast of America and I had a chat with Him.He has done a lot of work on the American branch of the Family Name.

From what I understand, there are a few American branches of the Binch family. For example, William Arthur Binch's sister, Ann Rebecca Binch, and nephew, Henry James Binch, came to America in the 1850s. Their descendants are right here in Utah. My wife's grandmother is buried in the same cemetery as them, which is on land donated by the Binches. Also, William Arthur Binch's brother, David Binch, came over to America with his wife, but shortly after he died fighting in the American Civil War.

Hi Wayne, tried to contact you by phone last weekend ,but could not find the number.because of the time gap between a lot of posts , I thought I would introduce myself to you.and rekindle some of your interest in the binch ancestory.Yes, I can understand that the Gallagher family might have had my name written as an interested family researcher.Did get a letter from their (son,Daughter ?) a few years ago informing me of her passing away.I was lucky to spend some time with Mavis in her late years and she gave me a lot of information and some insight into the Family.Mavis was in possession of a lot of material and I was able to scribe some of the info.Because of the stigma associated with having Convict ancestral blood in the early days , some of the written family history has been tinted with a rose coloured brush.Hope you are in possession of some of Mavis's notes?I noticed that you have been able to collate a lot of useful information and am looking forward in sharing with you in 2008 so that we can all benefit.regards, brian

Hi everyonewell I'm back on line and have got some documents out of storagefirstly: good to see you found that microfiche at the library Wayne. I have a printed copy of the fiche , going back to circa 1700. very hard to connect all the Clan !! we now have the help of our "British Cousins " too help in that department. Secondly: I wish to correct a mistake that even I had the misfortune of making.WILLIAM BINCH born 1821 was sent to Australia on the "SV "ANNA MARIE" arriving Geelong 23 June 1848.Sarah Anne Binch (nee: RYDE)Wife and Sarah Anne BINCH (Daughter) Immigrated to "The COLONIES" in 1849 arriving 18 December on the SV "SUCCESS"'I have Documents supporting these facts and will scan them as soon as i get a scanner .Cheers for now ,(untill I get a bit more organised{BRIAN

Dear BrianThanks very much for your message as it was great hearing from you. Thanks also for trying to telephone me, but I have an unlisted number. As I mentioned before, I called in to see Joanne Moorby nee Gallagher and her husband, Colin, at 36 Blazey Road, Croydon, Victoria, Australia 3136, during a day off from my volunteer work at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. Your note was actually on the opposite page to Dell Carter who does not want to be known or contacted and all of her records are to be destroyed upon her death. As I was at a family gathering I did not get much time to look at the notes that Mavis had made and from what I saw it mainly concerned her Kirby side and was very hard to read. Maybe you can call around to see Sharon one day and write up all of the notes more clearly. It was very interesting that you mentioned the ship SV Success, as I have no recode of it and I last saw the original shipping list of the ship SV Anna Maria over ten years ago which contained all of the information that I wrote about in relation to William Binch and his family. Therefore I do not know why two different records exist, which I guess is just another problem to solve. So I will lose now and let you get a bit more organized and look forward very much to hearing from you again.Yours sincerelyWayne Binch
